2009 Bayou Boogaloo Highlights

The 2009 Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo was Louisiana's first green music and arts festival with Solar powered stages, Bio-Diesel generators, locally grown and organic foods, a comprehensive recycling program and sustainable living and coastal restoration education. As always the Festival was a family-friendly event with a kids stage and games and activities for children.

2009 Bayou Boogalooers took part in delicious food, cold beer and libations, listened to great local music, and enjoyed the very best art that New Orleans has to offer.

1950-2009

With regrets, we are sad to announce the passing of a Mid-City legend, Jim M. Taylor (1950-2009). The 2009 Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo Festival is dedicated to the memory of Taylor and the contributions he made to the community. He will share this honor with Fird "Snooks" Eaglin.

Higher Heights

Higher Heights is one of New Orleans’ top reggae acts. Their progressive, socially conscious message unites their blend of traditional Jamaican melodies, hip electronics and dub flavored rhythms. There are few shows more engaging, enlightening and entertaining than a reggae show, and Higher Heights’ set is sure to be among the Boogaloo’s best.

Lynn Drury

Singer-songwriter Lynn Drury’s sharp lyrics, impassioned vocals and bluesy, roots-driven melodies have made her a Crescent City favorite. Her unfading, country twang feels right at home atop a fresh New Orleans groove. Organic, irresistible and evocative, Drury blends the spirit of Ani DiFranco with the warmth of Patty Griffin. Always enchanting, Drury’s set at the Bayou Boogaloo promises to be a memorable occasion.

Soul Rebels Brass

One of the most prominent brass bands to hail from the Crescent City in recent years, the Soul Rebels bring together the sizzle of old school soul, the swagger of modern day hip-hop and the spirit of tradition brass. Their talents have taken them on tour the world over, and their all night romps at Le Bon Temps Roulé have made them favorites here at home. Their music is fresh, funky, visceral and vibrant - the true spirit of New Orleans.

Volunteer for the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo

We want to make this year's Bayou Boogaloo Festival an even bigger success over previous years; the line up of musicians and vendors is looking great. As this is a FREE event, the success hinges on having a great group of volunteers. If you are interested in helping out we will have 4 hour shifts on Thursday 5/21, Friday 5/22, Saturday 5/23 and Sunday 5/24. The festival will run Friday night (5P-9P) and all day Saturday (11A-9P), Thursday and Sunday are for set up and break-down. Areas for volunteers include:

- Parking lot control

Zero Waste

The Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo festival strives to be a "zero-waste event" by reducing the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserving and recovering all resources, and does not burn or bury waste. A zero-waste event reduces all discharges to land, water or air that may be a threat to the planet and its inhabitants.
